Opportunity Amongst The Chaos Of Covid-19

In the midst of my own heartbreak, depression and anxiety, I am forced to do the unthinkable which is to just stop and feel all of the devastation wash over me like a tsunami. I can’t get away from it.

Bit by bit I am learning to surrender to each beautiful and painful truth of how I live. Grasping for vices or hiding away in my comforting addictions, closing the curtains and curling up in my bed only prolongs the inevitable reality of feeling the pain of this global nightmare.

From one citizen to another, I beg of you: take a deep breath, ignore the deafening noise, and think deeply about what you want to put back into your life. This is your chance to define a new version of yourself. This is a rare opportunity to get rid of the bullsh** and to only bring back what makes your life more meaningful: a life you are truly proud of when this is all over.

If nobody cares, cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it’s not. ~Dr. Seuss

You can do this on a personal scale in your own home by tuning into how your body feels everyday and not running away from it or masking the unbearable angst. You can do this by devoting yourself to a daily spiritual practice of surrendering, allowing and trusting that something greater than yourself may get you through this.

You can do this by noticing how you spend your time, what media programming you watch, who you listen to and what foods you put in your body…

The universe just handed you a sacred pause to discover what is most important to you in your life.

Be grateful for that.

The people who use this time sheltering at home as an excuse to sit around and not take action to strengthen their will forces and become more resilient, powerful, strong and healthy, will end up more compromised, more exhausted, more sickly and more vulnerable to what is about to come. This is going to get much more intense before it gets better, so I recommend you brace yourself and prepare for the worst.

If you are sitting around right now waiting for a pill, or a vaccine so you can feel better and more at ease about COVID-19, well you are wasting your time.

I hate to say it, but viruses don’t go away. They never go away. And if you’ve ever met anyone who had the flu shot and still got the flu, well then you know that vaccines don’t always work because viruses mutate. They are faster and smarter than the humans who try to outwit them.

But the truth about the COVID-19 virus is that people with underlying health conditions are at the greatest risk of dying of it and this is very well documented in the medical literature. If you have an underlying health condition and you feel vulnerable and afraid to go outside, well you should be scared. But sometimes fear can be a great motivator. Especially the fear of death.

But the good news is that you don’t have to be a sitting duck! You have been given the gift of time to do something proactive about your health, if you choose.

I hear a loud cry from the universe to rise up and grasp ahold of my personal power to change what is in my control. This doesn’t depend on anyone else.

It’s time to get our sh** together like our life depends on it–because it does.

Right now there’s a window of time to get a head start on making the health changes you may have been procrastinating for a long, long time; and your will be glad you did.

Fortunately, with a vaccine for COVID-19 corona virus more than a year a way and current efforts to reduce the risk of contracting the virus focused on physical and social distancing measures, personal hygiene including proper hand-washing techniques and avoiding touching one’s face, as well as wearing face coverings in public places as the protocol for maintaining good health, there is much more we can do to stay safe and reduce the risk of getting serious complications or dying from this virus.

Sadly, the current standard recommended dietary guidelines are going to do nothing to address the high rates of obesity and metabolic diseases that are rampant in North America.

Addressing dietary and lifestyle changes that are documented to put comorbid conditions such as high blood pressure, pre diabetes, type 2 diabetes and obesity into remission should be considered now more than ever.

Salt is an essential nutrient. Our body requires sodium (contained in salt) for all of our cells to function properly, especially our brain and nervous system. The human body cannot produce sodium, and therefore, it must come from the foods we eat and from the salt we put on our food.
