Using A Ketogenic Diet In The Therapeutic Management Of Cancer

This is a fantastic article stating the incredible benefits of using a ketogenic diet for the metabolic management of cancer. According to this article, "the zone of metabolic management is likely entered with GKI values between 1 and 2 for humans. Optimal cancer management is predicted for values approaching 1.0 -2.0, and blood glucose and ketone values should be measured 2–3 hours postprandial, twice a day if possible.

To calculate your Glucose-Ketone Index you will need to have a blood glucose monitor and a blood ketone monitor to obtain your blood ketone level and your blood glucose level and then calculate your Glucose Ketone Index (GKI).

To achieve optimal "cancer fighting" GKI levels, it requires having very low blood sugar levels and relatively high ketone levels.

If you are not managing cancer, your GKI can be a bit higher. For example, a good range to aim for with your GKI to attain optimal wellness is about 2.0-4.0.

You will divide your glucose number by 18 to convert it to millimoles per liter (mmol/L). Then divide that number by your total ketones. The ideal outcome should be around 1.0 for therapeutic ranges. For example, if my ketones are 1.2 and my blood sugar is 80, my GKI is 3.7. So, that's a long way from optimal! To get in the optimal zone, I would have to have a blood sugar of 70 (ish) and my ketones would have to be around 2.5 to get a GKI of 1.5. In other words, 70 divided by 18 equals 3.8 and 3.8 divided by 2.5 equals 1.52.  Got it?

Paying attention to the optimal ratio of your glucose and ketones has been scientifically proven to be a powerful tool for the metabolic management of aggressive, inoperable cancers such as brain tumors. Read more...

Salt is an essential nutrient. Our body requires sodium (contained in salt) for all of our cells to function properly, especially our brain and nervous system. The human body cannot produce sodium, and therefore, it must come from the foods we eat and from the salt we put on our food.
