What Experts Say About The Ketogenic Diet

See what best selling author, Dr. David Perlmutter, has to say about the ketogenic diet and discover why this diet is quickly becoming the Holy Grail of metabolic balance and may even hold the secret to the Fountain of Youth…

Although the ketogenic diet has been around for thousands, if not millions of years (once known as “hunting and gathering”), it could not have slipped into mainstream America at a better time.

People are sicker now than ever. According to top researchers, scientists and doctors, the foundational causes of degenerative diseases are associated with a breakdown in metabolic function.

Metabolic disorders such as cancer, obesity and diabetes are on the rise and ironically, the answers may have been right under our noses all along… The ketogenic diet should be recognized as being one of the key adaptations to our survival as a species thus far and it may hold the answers to the future of our sustainability as a species.

The ketogenic diet is the shiny “new” tool designed by our own physiology, specifically for healing our metabolism and rebooting our immune system. This natural phenomenon puts aside all opinions and gets straight to the root with precision accuracy. It is hard to argue with Mother Nature and our body is clearly hard-wired with this built in capability.

Our very own human physiology should get all the credit for figuring this diet out for us. This is anything but a new fad diet.

This is the message that some of the greatest doctors and researchers of our time have been shouting over the last few decades to no avail. But after years of Tripping Over The Truth, maybe it’s time to listen to the evidence?

In the midst of the current disease epidemics in our country, many healthcare professionals are beginning to wonder how the autistic population (predicted to be one in two by the year 2025) will be able to care for the other half of the population who will be suffering from Alzheimer’s, dementia, depression, diabetes, cancer, obesity and autoimmune disorders… This leaves a thin line to navigate and brings up the question…

How will we survive the Sixth Extinction? Well, if we have a chance at all, it will be the same way we did it the other five times in our evolutionary history. Either we will adapt–or we will die off. And, as always, the strongest will survive. So how can we strengthen our forces?

We don’t need to look far to see who will prevail and who will perish under harsh conditions. It is already happening. Just look around. As a species, our physiology is losing it’s ability to cope with metabolic stressors: our metabolism is becoming less flexible and more “intolerant” to the onslaught of daily life. It is overwhelmed with the simple task of cellular respiration (metabolism): the creation of energy and the removal of waste. The resulting conditions are chronic fatigue (lack of energy) and dis-EASE (toxicity), because the metabolism is tired, burnt out and dysfunctional.

By giving our metabolism a rest, we can strengthen our life force energy because the physiology can finally relax and heal itself.

The simple dietary strategy known as “keto-adaptation,” improves our body’s ability to adapt to high intensity physical, environmental and emotional stressors. In essence, it creates metabolic flexibility and cleans up years of metabolic waste that has built up over a lifetime and bogs down the system.

With the right type of fuel in the body, inflammation is relieved; and the inner repair of the gut, brain and nervous system can take place. This requires removing aggravators of inflammation which are sugars and replacing them with healthy fats.

A ketogenic diet is like giving your body an oil change.

If the human body wasn’t wired with this built in metabolic adaptation, you and I wouldn’t be here right now. It is the buried treasure of our ancient past and reveals the true mastery of our genetic blueprint.

In Dr. Mercola’s new book, Fat For Fuel (a must read!), he outlines beautifully how to restore metabolic function by changing our fuel source.

Unfortunately, we don’t get a chance to flex our “metabolic muscle” very often in our culture, because ketosis is simply not possible with a carbohydrate centric diet. And, unfortunately, we’ve all been mislead to believe that eating lot’s of carbohydrates is “healthy.”

When scientific information aligns with our own physiology, Mother Nature and ancient history–it is not to be ignored. Rather, it should be revered like sacred scripture and is certainly worthy of taking a deeper look at if nothing else.

A ketogenic diet is like engaging your physiology in metabolic yoga. It’s not just for bodybuilders and endurance athletes although it is very beneficial for increasing athletic performance. I’m a mother of four children, committed to natural immunity. For me, the ketogenic diet has been an invaluable tool for it’s immune boosting effects; enabling my family to avoid needless antibiotics, vaccinations and trips to the doctors office. A magic wand that every parent should know about!

I have seen the results of the ketogenic diet used with great success in so many of my patients. Since 1993, when I was first introduced to it the ketogenic diet, I wondered how one diet could be so incredibly powerful for helping relieve so many different symptoms for seemingly unrelated diseases. Now, thanks to a few fearless pioneers, we know why… It’s because the ketogenic diet targets the cause of metabolic dysfunction and rehabilitates cellular communication by reversing mitochondrial damage and restoring healthy DNA.

“In recent years, scientists have come to realize that it’s not genetic mutations that cause cancer. We now know that mitochondrial damage happens first.”   ~ Fat For Fuel, by Dr. Mercola"

Salt is an essential nutrient. Our body requires sodium (contained in salt) for all of our cells to function properly, especially our brain and nervous system. The human body cannot produce sodium, and therefore, it must come from the foods we eat and from the salt we put on our food.
